Power Electronics in Modern Power Grids

 

Abstract:

Modern power grid is going to energy internet, and power electronics is playing an important role in the energy revolution worldwide. The presentation firstly introduces some new power electronic equipment for meeting the rapid requirements from modern power grid, such as electric energy router, power amplifier, energy harvesting, wireless power transfer, and so on. On the other hand, power electronics also meets serious challenges from the modern power grids, which will be presented and discussed briefly.

Biography:

Zhengming Zhao obtained the bachelor and master degree from Hunan University, China, in 1982 and 1985, respectively, and Ph.D from Tsinghua University, China, in 1991, all in Electrical Engineering. Since 1991, he has been a faculty member of Tsinghua University. In 1994-1997, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Ohio State University and University of California Irvine, USA, and then a senior visiting scholar and research professor successively in the University of British Columbia and University of Hong Kong during 1998-1999. He is currently a professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering in Tsinghua University, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Power Systems. He is also a vice chairman for both Power Electronics Society of Chinese Electrotechnical Society and Beijing Power Electronics Society, a member of WFEO Energy Committee solar energy expert group, and the chairman of IEEE PELS Beijing Chapter. His main research interests include high-power electronics technology, grid-connected photovoltaic power generation application, motor drives, and wireless power transfer.
